Harness Change for a Smoother Path to Success

In the real estate industry, people continuously speak about change and disruption. As far as I’m concerned, you either embrace progress or you are out of business.  An ongoing theme shared by my company and the Better Homes and Gardens® Real Estate brand is always do better, be better and change the status quo.

The one thing that remains constant is change.  Some call it disruptive forces, but I call it life.  There are many examples of external obstacles causing our industry to evolve and we have to meet them head on in order to maintain control of our future.  This can be intimidating. However, let’s face it – when you are a leader, you cannot be afraid of change even though you will have some failures.  It’s all a part of growth.  More importantly, it’s all a part of success.

Technology is the perfect example of this.  Over the years, it has made huge modifications and improvements in our industry, forcing us to move forward and change in a way that has been uncomfortable at times.  Staying up to date with new technology and adapting your business practices is the key in this day and age.  It’s the essence of embracing change when the benefits start to outweigh the initial uneasiness of the learning curve.

According to findings from the National Association of REALTORS® in their Real Estate in a Digital Age 2017 report, while members are taking advantage of the technology that is available to them in their everyday business practices, one of the biggest challenges firms are facing in the next two years is truly keeping up with it.

I was recently installed as President of the Real Estate Business Institute, which is a pleasure and an honor.  I know that I would have never received that opportunity if I had remained stagnant in my business practices and ideas.  If I fought off change, not as many good things would be happening to me or my business.

I’m also lucky to be a part of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate, where a like-minded leadership team encourages our network to embrace our future. It is inspiring to see how our vibrant brand leads the way by always looking frontward and evolving.

Change is inevitable, and those who move along with it will find that’s a good thing!
