  1. Hi;

    I am Robert Brickell’s oldest daughter writing you!

    I & my whole family is relieved that Mason McDuffie Co. is ‘noticed’ again: the company should not have disappeared!!!!!

    My Dad worked too hard over his 18 years as General Sales Manager at the Berkeley, CA office to have the company go away like it did!!!!!!!!!! They didn’t deserve to get treated like that!!!!!!!!

    Dad started working for Mason McDuffie Co. in 1950 I was born in 1953–we lived at 6409 Thornhill Dr. Oakland, CA in Feb. 1953 from the Paul Roemers (friends & my sister’ Godparents). We paid $14,000.00 for it & assumed the G.I. loan that .

    Paul had on the house. That meant that Dad didn’t have to use his G.I. loan (Veterans only allowed one time to borrow from the Govt. for a house) so if we needed a loan for another house later it was still available to Dad.

    We lived in that house until Nov. 1955 when we moved to 6406 Colton Blvd..

    By ’58 moved to Templr Place, stayed there through Nov. ’70, moved to Piedmont, CA—on 6/9/74, met Bill Appelt at my girlfriends in oakland, ca—married him on 12/6/75 in oakland, ca.

    I know this is long, sorry for boring you (if I did)

    Dad is 84 now, has dementia (not alzheimers, though)

    1. I had always wondered how your Dad was doing. I used to work in the Kensington office in 1987, when I was 19 yrs old. Your Dad fired me. No hard feelings though, he was straight to the point. My sales were horrible! Nevertheless, I always admiried your Dad's hard work. I recall inviting him to my wedding (August 19) but he responded that one of his daughters was getting married on that day. He was kind enough to send me a card though. I also recall watching your Dad and Roberta dance at one of the company X-mas parties. It was very inspiring to see such a happy couple. By the way, your Dad was smooth on the dance floor! After my departure, I obtained my broker's license in 1991 at age 22 and went out on my own – where I've been ever since. I guess I never wanted to get fired again 🙂 I too am glad the Mason-McDuffie name returned and hope that it continues for many years to come.
      Kind Regards,
