Inman Takeaways

The first week of 2009 started great with the Real Estate BarCamp and Inman Connect conference in New York City. Both events were full of wonderful people with great ideas. Below are a few of my takeaways.

  • If you are thinking of starting a blog but don’t think you’ve got enough time or energy to figure out what to write, consider starting a group blog with multiple contributors. An example of a multiple contributor real estate blog: www.chasenation.com
  • Check out advertising opportunities on Facebook. Geographic targeting will allow you to do things like serve up open house ads to people in your market within a certain age group.
  • Check out www.netamorfasis.com. Mary McKnight is ultra cool with great ideas.
  • Tokbox.com will allow you send video mail, do video chat and lots more for free!
  • Want to practice your online video skills, try www.12seconds.tv
  • Best quote:  “If you can send an email, you can use every single piece of social technology.” Jeff Turner, Real Estate Shows
  • My new inspiration, Gary Vaynerchuk. You rock!
  • Organize your emails: www.xobni.com (I downloaded it already and love it!)
  • Send video mail and highlight online messages with www.eyejot.com
  • To view the ongoing conversation from these events go to http://search.twitter.com and type in #rebcny or #icny.

  1. It was great to see you there, Wendy! I have most of these on my list too…along with another 10 pages of notes that I will eventually sort through. I’m not sure I’ve ever come away from a conference with so many ideas and inspiration, but boy am I jazzed up! Totally need to take a step back and plan though, ’cause it will be easy to get distracted by too many things.

  2. Wendy,
It has to be gratifying to see your business model align so well with the predictions and focus on the future of the industry. For those that missed REBarcamp, it was another tremendous day of passionate sharing with great, actionable content. It would NOT have been successful without the generous support of BHGRE. On behalf of any and all who attended, THANK YOU!

P.S. I’ve scheduled a podcast interview with @garyvee and my goal is to use the time to expand on his keynote message and bring some clarity to the message as it applies to the real estate vertical. If anyone has questions they want me to ask, just DM on twitter http://www.twitter.com/mlbroadcast
